For many years, minorities subscribe to fought and struggled for equality in America. Sadly, these people have been treated unfairly or have non been given opportunities by dyed components of todays civilization.
Affirmative action is aimed to encourage equal opportunity, to counterbalance the set up of past discrimination, and to confront existing discrimination. However, many people view that it is counterproductive, irrelevant, and that it has reached its full capacity and is no longer necessary.
While the enclosure assentient action was not used until 1961 to explain the US government policy, former president, Abraham Lincoln, initiated affirmative action in 1866 when he proposed the Civil Rights Act. This act abolished all sla actually, certified protection for African Americans, and assisted African Americans in becoming citizens of the US. Furthermore, the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 play an important role in obtaining equal opportunities. Once this was passed, decisions ground on orientation and race were illegal. Nevertheless, discrimination is still commonplace in todays society.

People who do not support or advocate affirmative action clearly do not face these unfair treatments or they allow fabricated and fictitious stories to make the choice for them. Affirmative action is needed very much now as it was needed before. African Americans are twice as unemployed than whites who are unemployed in America. As reported by the US Commerce Department, there are 2.6 million unemployed blacks and 114 million employed whites(U.S. authorization of the Census, 2011). Therefore, if every unemployed black were to take the place of a white worker, only 2% of those whites would be affected. In fact, affirmative action states that only job-qualified applicants are liable for the job, so the per centum of affected whites would be less than 2%.
